In the 1930s, when big power companies refused to serve rural Texas, local communities formed electric cooperatives to provide electricity and pull the rural economy out of the Great Depression. Electric cooperatives are built by, and belong to, the communities and members they serve. They have no shareholders and routinely return excess revenues to their consumer-members.

Today, not-for-profit electric cooperatives not only provide reliable and affordable electricity powering grocery stores, pharmacies, and hospitals, but also provide rural Texans with access to affordable high-speed broadband internet ensuring long term sustainable economic growth for their communities.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the recent Winter Storm Uri have created financial hardships and uncertainty for rural Texans and the impacts will be long lasting. That’s why we are calling on our Texas legislature to support rural Texas and provide an essential safety net for cooperatives and the communities they serve.

After more than 80 years of service, cooperatives continue to enrich the communities they serve.

We share a common purpose of supporting our fellow neighbors, and similarly consider ourselves humble servants. Please stand with us to support our local cooperatives at large this legislative session. Your support is crucial.
